Calligraphy – Learning the Basics

Tuesdays in October, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sister lois

October 9, 16, 23, 30

You can make an ordinary card or memo a thing of art, with a little attention to the style of writing that you use. Sister Lois will begin her presentation with a short introduction to the art of calligraphy. She will teach her unique form of calligraphy, using a chisel-pointed calligraphy pen. Paper and a standard calligraphy pen with a 2.5mm tip will be provided for you. Practice time will address the basic strokes for each letter of the alphabet and spacing within words, leading to the lettering of a saying or quotation.

Presenter: Sister Lois Spors, O.S.B., is a sister of Mount Saint Benedict Monastery in Crookston. Her background is in teaching science and computer, both at Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks and at Mount Saint Benedict Academy in Crookston. Currently she serves as editor of the Crookston Benedictine, manages the reception and telephone service of the monastery, and assists in hosting MSB Center events.
