The Saint John’s Bible was commissioned in 1998 by the monks of St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota. It is the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in 500 years. The one and only original Saint John’s Bible is housed and available for viewing on the campus of St. John’s Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
The Heritage Edition is a fine art reproduction of the original handwritten Saint John’s Bible. Through the generosity of a magnanimous donor, the Sisters of Mount Saint Benedict were pleased to receive the first four volumes in 2010 and the remaining three volumes in 2013. Each volume measures about 2′ x3′ and was crafted to maintain the beauty of the original Bible. Other Heritage Editions have also been presented to educational, healing and cultural centers including The Vatican, Archbishop Harry Flynn, The Naples Art Museum, Saint Thomas University in St. Paul, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
