Sister Mary Leonard Nester was one of our exceptionally talented artists here at Mount Saint Benedict. When Mother Eustacia discovered her artistic ability, she first worked in the candle house decorating the beeswax candles and creating labels for the many honey products sold in the early days of community. She achieved a MA in art from the University of North Dakota and did post graduate work at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
Sister Mary Leonard’s nephew and his wife, Tom and Patty Spry, visited Mount Saint Benedict recently to enjoy the many pieces of her art from our archives.
